Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism is generally referred to as “Buddha”, or “the Buddha”.  The term Buddha means “awakened one” or the “enlightened one”. The Buddha never claimed divinity but taught that Buddha nature is the birthright of every sentient being; to be attained through practice of the Eightfold Path.
